Based in Minneapolis, I'm
arts editor at the Twin Cities Daily Planet and
a founding editor at The Tangential. I hold
a Ph.D. in sociology from Harvard University, and
I teach media and cultural studies at Macalester College. I also run
the hyperfiction site Unreality House. I contribute as a freelance writer to publications including
Artforum.com and
Vita.mn, and in 2013
I'm serving as visiting critic in the Jerome Arts Fellowship program at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. My books include
Future Cities (co-edited with Becky Lang, Bascom Hill, 2013),
Sociology for Dummies (Wiley, 2010), and
Reconstructing the University (co-authored with David John Frank, Stanford University Press, 2006). I'm on
